Match Point

Unless you count wearing all black out of laziness, I am never one to match my clothes and accessories. Brown bag and brown shoes, sure, but that’s not much of a fashion statement, now is it? But that all changed when I was scouring the spring runway shows for inspiration this year. So many designers, from Marc Jacobs to Jil Sander, went so far beyond matching accessories, that the models were sent down the catwalk wearing the same color from head to toe. These monochromatic looks are so simple and elegant, and I was convinced I needed to give this look a try. This presented more of a challenge than I thought; after all, I didn’t want to look like I was wearing a pants suit (unless of course, I was wearing a pants suit. Which I do sometimes.) Part of the challenge here is layering shades and textures within the same color family. Not so easy, but when done right it can result in some really eye-catching looks. See what I mean?

Whether your style is minimal, eccentric, what have you, you can adapt your personal style to try this look for spring. I personally was motivated by a recent shipment of floppy straw hats we got in, along with the Marc Jacobs spring runway show. I think if I’m able to nab the blue one (we also have orange and purple) it would look amazing with shades of blue from head to toe, don’t you think so?
