Color Crush: Mint Green

I don’t know if you’ve noticed outside, but it’s finally spring time! And this spring, we’re awash with a lovely new hue: minty seafoam green. A particularly fresh and delightful color, this pretty, unexpected pastel looks great on almost all skin tones. It also pairs awesomely with bright colors like coral, but is mellow enough to place nicely with neutrals like black, tan and brown.
And the best way to have fun with this color without committing to a head to toe outfit, is in the accessories! A pair of sandals or flats paired with a white summer dress, or a peek of minty socks, are bound to keep you fresh.

In Canada, it’s just a tuxedo.
If you haven’t noticed, the denim on denim trend is all up in the streets’ and runways’ business right now. It can seem like a challenging to try on for size, when what you are wearing is no more than a Canadian Tuxedo with some serious style. If you’re down to try it, please don’t overdo it. Whether you’re feeling timid, or you’re already well-versed in the formal wear of our neighbors to the north, I gotcha covered.
More Canadian, less tuxedo:

Viva denim! All’s ya gotta do to pull it off is make sure that there’s a big difference in the washes of the top and bottom to break it up. Add a thick leather belt to break it up even further. Play up the outdoorsy vibe with some desert boots (Clarks, of course,) and some cool brass jewelry (Betsy + Iya.) If this look is still a little much, add a leather bomber jacket to ensure you are cooler than everyone ever. With all these sweet pockets, all you’ll need is your wallet or a small purse (Christopher Kon!) Or…
More Tuxedo, less Canadian:

If that is just too Canadian for you* try this. To get rid of any and all rodeo vibes, I suggest wearing the denim top open, with a comfy shirt underneath peeking out. Add a sleek black belt, some knee high boots (“Collette” by Born) and a bag for grownups (Christopher Kon strikes again!) Polish it off with some cool jewelry (necklace from Minoux, earrings from Betsy + Iya.) Throw on a chic woolly coat in a contrasting color and you are so set!
So what do you think, eh? Would you try these looks, or would you blame Canada?

Sally
*By which I of course mean too much denim.
On the Road Again
A combination of opportunity, sunshine, and wanderlust make summer the perfect time for traveling. Whether by plane, train, or automobile, you’re going to need the right footwear. Traveling, especially abroad, means narrowing it down to the absolute essentials, and looking chic is a must.
Packing lightly is easier said than done, but you have to admit, it certainly makes for an easier trip in the long run (how much of that stuff do you end up wearing anyway?)

In my humble opinion, here’s what you need to get your motor running on your next trip:
1. A flat sandal. No, not a flip flop! A pretty, versatile, flat, comfy sandal. Unless you’re going somewhere cold, you will need a sandal. One that looks great with jeans, slacks, dresses and shorts. The right pair isn’t going to hurt your feet or your wallet, either.

2. A comfy dress shoe. There’s a good chance you will end up at a nice dinner or schmancy party, and it is in your best interest to be prepared for that moment. Unless heels are your “thing” and you’re ok with suffering for beauty and stuff, I definitely recommend you go for a comfortable pair so you can go on about your adventure in peace. Dinner? Drinks? Dancing? Getting lost? Yeah, you want comfy heels.

3. An all-day walking shoe. Wherever you are visiting, you are sure to do a fair amount of walking, no? It’s the best way to see the sights! You don’t have to default to your old muddy sneakers that scream “tourist.” You can be comfortable and chic. In terms of versatility, I suggest either a menswear-inspired oxford or a little loafer or boat shoe. Perfect for summer!

Bon Voyage!

WWPNW?
Way, way back in the day, when Mani was being born, I wrote this post about how, if Mani were a man, he just might be Paul Newman himself: sophisticated yet manly, but never macho. It’s no wonder, then, that as I perused this amazing photo blog I became inspired. As Mani has grown, he really has become even more like Mr. Newman. Mani has settled confidently into “his” personal style. He has grown up!
Just take a look at these photos of Paul I found:
Casual, appropriate, endlessly cool, and the man knew how to rock a few carefully selected, timeless accessories. Plus, ya know… he was easy on the eyes.
Here are a few modern pieces, available at Manifesto, that recall what what Newman was all about; put together, yet carefree:
Top row, L-R: watch, Dean Accessories; newsboy cap, Goorin Bros.; wallet, Property Of; bow tie, Sovereign Beck.
Bottom row, L-R: Bayside Moccasin, SeaVees; Marlin, Born; Raider, J. Shoes; Iron Ranger, RedWing.
Who is your style icon?
Hey, Sailor!
Spring is here, fellas, and as the days get warmer it’s time to reassess what you’re wearing, and that includes your feet.
We’re not quite into flip-flop weather (though whether or not it is ever flip flop weather is debatable) so you’ll need something lightweight that still provides coverage. Well we just got in this style from Born (Marlin, $99) that I think is the perfect compromise: the classic boat shoe (also known as topsiders or deck shoes.)

They can be worn in the traditional, preppy, nautical fashion, or a bit more tongue in cheek, maybe with a vintage denim jacket and concert tee. Either way, they look great sans socks, with a cuffed jean. I like this style because they’re less than $100, and you can always add laces if you prefer that look.
What are your go-to spring shoe styles?
