A Girl Can Dream (Dream 1, Act 1)

I’ve been publishing my dream outfits, inspired by all my dream shoes, over on the pedx blog, and when the “Peggy Sue” clog boot from Sanita came in recently, we had a moment. I don’t just like them, I like-like them. I lurve them. Ya know? Here’s how I would wear them if I had them:

The rugged texture and muddy brown have me wanting to let them stand out, so I would definitely choose a light colored, neutral outfit. A loose blouse and cream trousers with a skinny belt, polished off with some posh accessories (shown here are wishbone post earrings from Viv + Ingrid, layered Minoux necklace, and men’s watch from Dean Accessories.)
What do you think? Let us know on our Facebook page!

Con-grad-ulations!

Whelp, it’s graduation season! Meaning you or someone you love is about to enter the cold, hard real world, and you couldn’t be more proud. Gettin’ a gift for someone can be a little tricky though.

First of all, practicality is always a winner. High school graduates could always use a messenger bag or backpack for their laptops, books and other collegiate accessories. Those college graduates are gonna have to have a new spiffy watch, to make sure they’re on time to their hopeful oncoming slew of job interviews. Or another, more sentimental touch for the ladies would be a charm necklace with an initial on it. Or a wishbone— as a good luck charm, get it?!

On the other hand, if you’re the one that’s the soon-to-be alumnus, you’re going to need some new shoes to make a good impression at your new job or internship. Shoes say a lot, and you’re gonna want your kicks to holler, “I’m proficient and sharp and awesome, you know you wanna gimme dat job!!” Transitioning to a more professional shoe may feel awkward, but you can stay fly with a smart oxford, or some chic (but comfy!) wedges or heels. Throw in a sleek Christopher Kon bag or a sturdy Dean laptop bag/suitcase, and you’ve got the polished, well-qualified look down!

Top row L-R: Wheelmen & Co. backpack; Baroni initial charm; Christopher Kon convertible tote

Middle row L-R: Fly London Win oxford; Tsubo Acrea heel

Bottom row L-R: Cydwoq Classic oxford; Dean laptop bag; D-Segno Brandy wedge

WWPNW?

Way, way back in the day, when Mani was being born, I wrote this post about how, if Mani were a man, he just might be Paul Newman himself: sophisticated yet manly, but never macho. It’s no wonder, then, that as I perused this amazing photo blog I became inspired. As Mani has grown, he really has become even more like Mr. Newman. Mani has settled confidently into “his” personal style. He has grown up!
Just take a look at these photos of Paul I found:

Casual, appropriate, endlessly cool, and the man knew how to rock a few carefully selected, timeless accessories. Plus, ya know… he was easy on the eyes.

Here are a few modern pieces, available at Manifesto, that recall what what Newman was all about; put together, yet carefree:

Top row, L-R: watch, Dean Accessories; newsboy cap, Goorin Bros.; wallet, Property Of; bow tie, Sovereign Beck.
Bottom row, L-R: Bayside Moccasin, SeaVees; Marlin, Born; Raider, J. Shoes; Iron Ranger, RedWing.

Who is your style icon?

In Defense of the Man Bag.

Ok, you dashing, dapper dudes. What gives? I have been peeking at men’s street style blogs lately, and the man bag is becoming more and more prevalent. Everywhere except Portland, that is. Where do you all keep your stuff? Don’t you feel the need for something to pull your outfit together? I’ll spare you the diatribe about gender stereotypes and just let you know that resistance is futile. Man bags are cool and practical, it just depends on how you style them. So ditch the ratty canvas backpack or the stodgy briefcase, there are so many more options available to you now!

See?

There’s a vast array of styles for you to choose from and, as always, Manifesto has your back. (Shown left, Simple, right, Dean Accessories. But there are so many more in stock! Come see!)
And if you’re still out there giving me the side eye, here’s a few examples of them being worn:

So stop in today for a lesson on man bags… If only you already had a place to keep the textbook!

12 Days of Christmas: Day 9

Depending on the man you’re shopping for, he might very well want nine ladies dancing for Christmas. But if that’s out of your budget or you simply don’t have enough $1 bills, why don’t you get him a slick watch? Then at the very least he’ll know when it’s time to take you dancing!

These are a few of my favorites from Dean Accessories (the same Dean that brings you those luscious leather bags.)
Stay tuned for day 10, I hear there’s some amount of lords a-leaping involved!

(Sorry for the delay in posting, tumblr was down for the majority of the day yesterday. We’ll make it up to you!)

12 Days of Christmas

Yes, my lovely readers, there is no turning back now. We have a scant 12 days until the Christmas festivities begin. So what does Mani have in store for you? A 12 part gift guide for the modern individual (because do you know how much it costs to pay 12 drummers to drum?! A LOT.)

Let’s get started here, shall we? Though it’s no partridge in a pear tree, most women I know would much rather have one amazing purse. The kind you can wear every day, from work to weekend; a bag so cute that she wouldn’t even ask you to hold it while she was shopping! Does such a bag exist, you say? But of course! Dean, a fan favorite around these parts, makes the most amazing, well-made, supple, California-cool bags I ever did see.

Check out my personal favorite:

The Belt Bag is an absolute classic. Not overdesigned, but still special. And these bags will last a lifetime. Pop in and check out our selection of droolworthy Deans!
(Insider tip: you can also snag this particular style with a longer strap to turn it into a crossbody style. Just ask!)

Stay tuned, folks. We have 11 more days of ideas for you!
