WWPNW?

Way, way back in the day, when Mani was being born, I wrote this post about how, if Mani were a man, he just might be Paul Newman himself: sophisticated yet manly, but never macho. It’s no wonder, then, that as I perused this amazing photo blog I became inspired. As Mani has grown, he really has become even more like Mr. Newman. Mani has settled confidently into “his” personal style. He has grown up!
Just take a look at these photos of Paul I found:

Casual, appropriate, endlessly cool, and the man knew how to rock a few carefully selected, timeless accessories. Plus, ya know… he was easy on the eyes.

Here are a few modern pieces, available at Manifesto, that recall what what Newman was all about; put together, yet carefree:

Top row, L-R: watch, Dean Accessories; newsboy cap, Goorin Bros.; wallet, Property Of; bow tie, Sovereign Beck.
Bottom row, L-R: Bayside Moccasin, SeaVees; Marlin, Born; Raider, J. Shoes; Iron Ranger, RedWing.

Who is your style icon?

Just some more Paul Newman for you!

There’s been a lot of talk around these parts (okay, mostly from me!) about Manifesto (Mani, as we’ve taken to calling him) being our baby. Young Mani certainly was a labor of love, and Baby Mani got me thinking, as we’ve watching him grow and change so much already: if Mani actually was a man, who would he be?
Bear with me on this one: Mani is a lot like Paul Newman. I mean, right? If you’ve been in yet- and if not, do try to get on that- you may have noticed a few similarities: Mani, like Paul, is all man. I mean that, of course, in the old-timey, Mad Men- kind of way. Sure, every parent thinks their child is the greatest thing ever, but we like to think that Mani has that whole classically rugged thing going on. There’s something very Portland about that, I think- remember when we were talking about Lumberjack Dandies?Back to Paul! He was the epitome of All That Was Man: Rugged without being all burly, cool in that laid back, couldn’t care less, kind of way, stylish and put together without trying too hard, plus (dare I say it?) he had a sensitive side to boot!
What do you think? Have you been in to Manifesto yet? Who do you think he’s most like?
