Heritage

I know that history lessons usually belong to Marika, but I just had to share this one.

We’re all big fans of Red Wing here- it is the brand to beat, for sure. Their boots are all made in the US, are incredibly well made, and have a truly timeless quality to them. Basically, they will look and feel good for a very long time.

Before we had even opened our doors, we decided that our “Mani Mascot” would be the Iron Ranger, part of the Red Wing Heritage Collection. The Heritage Collection is a branch of Red Wing devoted to designs with a story- as they put it, “crafted from legends.” And y’all know I love a good story!

From Red Wing:

“The Mesabi Iron Range lies in northern Minnesota, a rugged and remote area. The local residents are proudly known as Iron Rangers, individuals with a sense of adventure and a determined personality. The work boots worn into the iron mines had to be as tough as the demanding conditions.”

The Iron Ranger boot is a design dedicated to that craft: tough, sturdy, and ready to work as hard as you do. But that doesn’t mean that they can’t be mad handsome, too! That’s why Iron Rangers are the unofficial mascot of Manifesto.

WWPNW?

Way, way back in the day, when Mani was being born, I wrote this post about how, if Mani were a man, he just might be Paul Newman himself: sophisticated yet manly, but never macho. It’s no wonder, then, that as I perused this amazing photo blog I became inspired. As Mani has grown, he really has become even more like Mr. Newman. Mani has settled confidently into “his” personal style. He has grown up!
Just take a look at these photos of Paul I found:

Casual, appropriate, endlessly cool, and the man knew how to rock a few carefully selected, timeless accessories. Plus, ya know… he was easy on the eyes.

Here are a few modern pieces, available at Manifesto, that recall what what Newman was all about; put together, yet carefree:

Top row, L-R: watch, Dean Accessories; newsboy cap, Goorin Bros.; wallet, Property Of; bow tie, Sovereign Beck.
Bottom row, L-R: Bayside Moccasin, SeaVees; Marlin, Born; Raider, J. Shoes; Iron Ranger, RedWing.

Manifesto Sneak Product Peek!

The Pacific Northwest is certainly no stranger to the “manly man” stereotype they possess (and possess quite well): facial hair, tattoos, plaid shirts, questionable hygiene practices, iconic Paul Bunyan worship. But here in Portland, guys put their very own special, dare I say “dandy” twist to their male identity. Case in point: mustache wax, happy socks, specialty t-shirts, fedora hats, craft spirits… you get the picture. I like to call them the “dandy lumberjack”.

Well, here at Manifesto, we embrace the dandy lumberjack shoe needs with Red Wing Boots! They’ve been around for 100 years making boots when people still rode horses to work. Much has changed but today they continue the tradition by using the same craftsmanship and attention to detail. Triple stitched seams, sturdy welt construction and rich leathers manly enough to melt the heart of any lumberjack, dandy or not!
